Callumn Winter Disposable Vapes Leave a Comment

Today we’re looking at the newly released OB5500 disposable vape; the latest offering from the massively popular Lost Vape Orion Bar range!

Earlier this year we reviewed the Orion Bar 7500 disposable and were blown away by the exceptional design, performance and flavors. Since that review we’ve seen the Orion Bar disposables rocket in popularity!

With an impressive 14ml of e-juice, the OB5500 is a rechargeable disposable that looks to offer the same great performance as previous Orion Bar vapes. It features a 500 mAh internal battery along with variable airflow to suit a range of vapers.

On top of this, the OB5500 comes is a range of 10 mouth-watering flavors and uses a 1.0ohm mesh coil for improved vapor and flavor production. It’s available in a 50mg/ml nicotine strength which makes it ideal for those looking to make the switch from smoking to vaping.

Just be aware, as a non TPD compliant disposable you won’t be able to purchase the OBB550 in the UK or EU regions.

But that’s enough for the introduction…At Vaping Hardware we’ve made it our mission to help you hunt down the best disposable vapes. Join us to see if the OB5500 warrants a place on the list!

I’d like to quickly thank Jason at Lost Vape for sending me the OB5500 disposables to review. As always, this review is completely unbiased and only contains my honest opinions on the product. What’s in the Box?

Lost Vape OB5500 - Gift Box

As you can see, we were lucky enough to receive the OB5500 limited edition gift box containing 3 OB5500 disposables, a lanyard and a stick-on badge. Lost Vape were also generous enough to send us a further 7 OB5500 disposables in individual boxes.

Lost Vape OB5500 - Back of box

Each OB5500 comes packaged in a colorful box with plenty of handy info. On the front you’ll see an image of the OB5500 along with the flavor name, number of puffs and a mandatory nicotine warning. On either side of the box there’s some more information including the nicotine level and e-juice capacity.

Finally on the back of the box you’ll find a list of ingredients, several more warnings and a handy QR code you can use to check the disposable you’ve purchased is genuine. The only additional information that would have been nice to see is the PG/VG ratio of the e-juice. While not essential, it’s super handy for those who suffer from PG intolerance.

Lost Vape OB5500 - Peel off sticker from bottom

Once you remove the OB5500 disposable from the box you’ll find a small silicone bung that needs to be removed from the mouthpiece and a sticker on the bottom that can be peeled off to open access to the airflow. After that you’re ready to start vaping!

Lost Vape OB5500 | Design and Appearance

Just like other Orion Bar disposables, the first thing that struck me about the OB5500 is the amazingly compact size. Considering it’s designed as a multi-day rechargeable disposable, the tiny size is incredible!

Measuring just 80mm in height, 42mm in width and 22mm in depth, it fits easily in the palm of a hand. It feels similar to holding a chunky Zippo lighter or a small box of matches, making it perfect for slipping in a pocket and taking with you on the go.

Lost Vape OB5500 - Palm of the hand

It’s also an incredibly light disposable coming in at just 66g in weight. In fact, while testing the OB5500 I frequently carried 3 or 4 with me at the same time and barely noticed them in my pocket.

Yet despite the tiny size and light weight, the OB5500 carries an impressive 14ml of e-juice along with a rechargeable 500mAh battery. Hats off to the Lost Vape design team for cramming such an impressive amount of e-juice and hardware into such a tiny frame!

We’ve reviewed countless other compact, multi-day disposables over the last year (Mr Fog Switch, DRAGBAR B6500 etc) and the OB5500 is probably the smallest of them all!

Lost Vape OB5500 - Design and appearance

As a draw-activated vape the OB5500 is also incredibly simple to use. There are no buttons or adjustments to play around with and to vape you simply draw on the mouthpiece. Across all 10 of the OB5500s I tested the auto-draw worked flawlessly!

The only adjustment that can be made is to the airflow, which is one of the most impressive features of the OB5500! There’s a small slide switch located on the bottom of the vape which allows you to play around with the kind of draw you receive.

Lost Vape OB5500 - Type-C USB port and adjustable airflow slider

Go back a year and there were next to no disposables incorporating adjustable airflow. Now brands like Lost Vape are realizing the demand for this feature. The Orion Bar 7500 I reviewed before included adjustable airflow and I’m glad to see the OB5500 does the same!

At one end of the slider you get a really tight MTL (mouth-to-lung) draw that’s reminiscent of smoking a traditional cigarette. This setting would probably suit those who are newer to vaping and just making the switch from smoking.

At the other end of the slider you get a RDTL (restricted direct-to-lung) draw that’s a bit more open and airy. For me personally I found my sweet spot somewhere in the middle. With the slider set in the middle you’ll get a comfortable MTL draw that allows more of the flavor from the e-juice to pop!

On the bottom of the device you’ll also find the Type-C USB charge port (0.5A) and a small LED puff indicator. The LED lights up whenever you draw on the mouthpiece and flashes 10 times when the battery needs a recharge.

At the opposite end of the device you’ll find the clear polycarbonate mouthpiece which protrudes 16mm from the rest of the body. The mouthpiece is oval in shape and tapers into a small opening as it reaches the top. This mouthpiece design makes the OB5500 really comfortable to vape on and suits the different draw styles you can achieve.

Lost Vape OB5500 - Mouthpiece

I was also incredibly impressed with the overall aesthetics. Designed with a clear outer polycarbonate shell, each OB5500 features funky, retro artwork that runs around all four edges of the body.

Each OB5500 is adorned with the same picture but the colors are different depending on the flavor of the e-juice inside.

The picture itself seems like an eclectic mix of post-apocalyptic favorites like the Mad Max movies or Fallout games! While this might put some off, I actually loved the design. It’s refreshing and fun and helps the OB5500 stand out from the crowd.

Lost Vape OB5500 - Holding in the hand

Branding is also minimal with just a small Lost Vape logo and the name of the disposable printed directly under the artwork on the front.

In terms of shape, the front and back of the body are completely flat with raised edges that help you grip the device. The top, bottom and sides of the device are completely smooth and styled in an oval shape, making the OB5500 really comfortable to hold and vape on.

And for those of you worried that the polycarbonate shell and small size result in a cheap, fragile feel, the OB5500 feels anything but!

I dropped several of the ones we received for this review and didn’t observe a single scratch or crack to the outer body. Likewise none of the ones I dropped showed any problems with performance. This means the OB5500 is not only compact and light, but also incredibly robust and reliable!

Lost Vape OB5500 - Design and appearance 2

The only negative I could really find in terms of design was the lack of pass-through charging. Pass-through basically allows you to vape the device while it’s on charge. While the OB5500 not having this feature is a minor inconvenience, it’s really all the more reason to pick yourself up two!

Overall though, the Lost Vape OB5500 was everything I’d expected it to be. The super compact design and light weight make it ideal for taking with you on the go and the bold colorful artwork gives it a fun, refreshing vibe!

Add to this the impressive 14ml e-juice capacity, 500mAh battery and the adjustable airflow slider, and it seems like Lost Vape have produced another winner!

Lost Vape OB5500 | Performance

When it comes to performance, things are just as positive! The standout feature for me was the surprising lifespan produced by such a small device.

Lost Vape OB5500 - Performance

Just like it says on the box, the OB5500 provides approximately 5,500 puffs. Now admittedly I didn’t count every single puff. Instead I multiplied the number of puffs I took on the first day by the incredible 10 days each disposable lasted for.

This number came in at just under 5,500 puffs (5,320 to be exact). I just about had time for this review to vape 2 of the flavors to the very end, and each of these 2 lasted me around 10 days, give or take a few hours.

Because each OB5500 lasts for such a long time, I still have 8 mostly full disposables left to vape! Now if you’ve done the math you’ll know I took 532 puffs on that first day, and that’s a pretty high amount (I must cut back)!

But the general consensus online seems to suggest the average vaper takes around 150-200 puffs per day. If you fall within that bracket it means an OB5500 could last you around a full month! Considering you can expect to pay around just $12 for one, that’s insanely good value for money.

Lost Vape OB5500 - Performance 1

The internal 500 mAh battery also does a fantastic job and provides around 1 and a half days of heavy vaping before the device needs to be recharged. This means you can take the OB5500 out with you for the day, even a full weekend, without really needing to worry about running out of battery.

When the charge eventually does run out, the LED on the bottom will flash 10 times in quick succession. Like I mentioned earlier, the only slight drawback is that it can’t be vaped once you place it on charge.

To do this though simply plug in a USB-C cable and the LED stays permanently lit until the device reaches full charge. All told this takes just under an hour which is a reasonably quick recharge time at least.

Lost Vape OB5500 - On charge

Another thing that impressed me was the sheer amount of vapor produced by the 1.0ohm mesh coil, especially when you open up the airflow and take a RDTL draw! With only a reasonable puff the OB5500 kicks out thick, foggy plumes of vapor.

While you won’t be winning any cloud chasing competitions with it, the OB5500 still beats out the vast majority of disposables I’ve tried in terms of vapor production!

Lost Vape OB5500 - Performance 2

At a 50mg/ml (5%) nicotine strength it also delivers a really satisfying throat kick that works well to curb the cravings! Unfortunately though it’s not available in 20mg or 0mg nicotine strengths.

However, other models in the Orion Bar range are available in these strengths so I wouldn’t be surprised if this changes in the future.

With that being said, while I typically vape at a lower strength, I still found the vapor smooth and satisfying. With other 50mg disposables you often find the draws a bit overpowering, but the OB5500 provides a clean tasting draw with excellent nicotine delivery!

As well as this the 1.0 mesh coil kicks out consistently great vapor and flavor, with no burnt or dry hits at all! In fact, in the last 3 weeks of vaping the OB5500s, every single puff I’ve taken has produced thick, tasty vapor.

The only time the flavor does become muted is in the final few puffs before the 14ml of e-juice runs out. At this point the flavor comes through like dry cotton and you’ll know it’s time to dispose of it.

Lost Vape OB5500 - Performance 3

Like I mentioned before the auto-draw function also worked perfectly across all 10 of the OB5500s I tested. The response is fast and it only takes the lightest of puffs to activate the coil.

Finally it’s also worth mentioning not a single one of the 10 I vaped on leaked. While most disposables these days are generally leak proof, I’ve still had several leak e-juice on me in the past.

There’s nothing worse that having e-juice ruin your favorite pair of pants, or worse still splutter into your mouth from a gummed up coil. In this regard the OB5500 performed flawlessly!

Lost Vape OB5500 - Performance 4

Overall the OB5500 is one of the best rechargeable disposables I’ve ever personally tried. The 10 day lifespan makes it an extremely convenient disposable to use and the 500 mAh battery provides more than enough vaping time in between charges.

Add to this the fantastic vapor production, consistent flavor delivery and the satisfying throat hit and the OB5500 becomes a strong contender for my favorite disposable of the year, maybe only slightly beaten out by it’s older brother; the Orion Bar 7500.

Lost Vape OB5500 | Flavors

Another thing I love about Orion Bar vapes is the incredible flavors on offer. As a new release the OB5500 only currently has 10 flavors in the range, but the Orion Bar website promises more unique flavors are coming soon.

Lost Vape OB5500 - Flavor range

Currently the ten following flavors are available to buy:

  • Triple Berry
  • Bluerazz Lemonade
  • Pineapple Coconut
  • Kiwi Passion Fruit Guava
  • Pink Lemonade Mint
  • Kiwi Berry
  • Strawberry Dragon Fruit
  • Creamy Candy
  • Fresh Mint
  • Strawberry Watermelon

As you can see there’s some delicious mixes in the range and although it’s heavily in favor of the fruity blends, it’s nice to see the inclusion of flavors like ‘Creamy Candy’ and ‘Fresh Mint’.

We were fortunate enough to receive all 10 flavors and while taste is incredibly subjective, I’ll do my best to give a brief description of each:

Bluerazz Lemonade

Lost Vape OB5500 - Bluerazz Lemonade

The Bluerazz Lemonade was easily one of my personal favorites from the range. There’s a rich and authentic blueberry flavor on the inhale that tickles the tastebuds and leaves you wanting more. On the exhale the fizz comes into its own and rounds the blend off nicely.

It’s one of those flavors where the individual tastes are easy to pick out but the overall blend isn’t too overpowering. A difficult one to put down and easily an all-day vape for me!

Creamy Candy

Lost Vape OB5500 - Creamy Candy

The Creamy Candy is one of those rare flavors that tastes genuinely unique. Of all the flavors I’ve vaped on over the years I’m not sure I’ve had one quite like it!

The individual flavors are incredibly hard to pin down but there’s definetely a smooth creaminess on the inhale. Where the mix gets really interesting is on the exhale. While I’m not entirely convinced it’s a candy taste, the exhale absolutely bursts with flavor.

Personally I really enjoyed the Creamy Candy but I can imagine it’ll be a bit of a divisive flavor.

Fresh Mint

Lost Vape OB5500 - Fresh Mint

Just as the name suggests, the Fresh Mint is a simple, straightforward flavor that’s perfect for resetting the palette. While it’s certainly not as glamourous as others in the range, it’s nice to see it included nonetheless.

Like popping a spearmint chewing gum in your mouth, the Fresh Mint has a gentle sweetness that lingers in the mouth. On the exhale the cool, refreshing tones burst through and keep you coming back for more. While it’s not one I’d usually choose to buy myself, it’s easily another all-day vape!

Kiwi Berry

Lost Vape OB5500 - Kiwi Berry

A delicious medley of fruity flavors, the Kiwi Berry was another personal favorite. The kiwi is the overriding flavor and it gives the blend a really refreshing vibe. It’s the kind of flavor that’s perfect for a hot summer’s day.

The berry flavor is much more gentle and allows the sweetness of the kiwi to really pop! At the risk of sounding like a broken record the Kiwi Berry was yet another all-day vape for me.

Kiwi Passion Fruit Guava

Lost Vape OB5500 - Kiwi Passion Fruit Guava

Another delicious cocktail of fruity flavors, the Kiwi Passion Fruit Guava is another perfect flavor for those hot summer days. The passion fruit has a real lip-smacking sourness to it but the sweetness of the kiwi and guava balance it out nicely.

This was one of the two flavors I choose to test the lifespan of the OB5500 and I was genuinely disappointed when it ran out. I’ll certainly be adding this one to the shopping cart soon!

Pineapple Coconut

Lost Vape OB5500 - Pineapple Coconut

Like being transported to a Caribbean island, the Pineapple Coconut has some seriously tropical vibes! I’m not usually the biggest fan of coconut but Lost Vape have done an excellent job of blending it perfectly with the zesty pineapple flavor.

The pineapple definetely takes center stage and lingers on the tastebuds for some time. Not one I’d personally choose to buy again but definetely another enjoyable blend.

Pink Lemonade Mint

Lost Vape OB5500 - Pink Lemonade Mint

This was about the only flavor in the entire range that I couldn’t make my mind up on. It’s not that it’s a bad flavor at all, but just a little unusual.

I’m not sure my brain can get past the mix of mint with pink lemonade. The fizz on this one is really subtle and works well but the mint is fairly strong, with less of the sweetness found in the Fresh Mint flavor. There were times when I really enjoyed vaping this flavor and times when it became a bit overpowering.

If you have tried this flavor then I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments!

Strawberry Dragon Fruit

Lost Vape OB5500 - Strawberry Dragon Fruit

Having never eaten dragon fruit I wasn’t too sure what to expect with this one. What I found was a subtle, mildly sweet flavor on the inhale followed by a deep, rich strawberry on the exhale.

I could have sworn I picked up some kiwi and pear flavors on the inhale but maybe that’s the dragon fruit flavor coming through. The Strawberry Dragon Fruit was yet another sweet, delicious mix that’s easily an all-day vape!

Strawberry Watermelon

Lost Vape OB5500 - Strawberry Watermelon

If I had to pick a favorite the Strawberry Watermelon would be it! Lost Vape have perfectly nailed the watermelon flavor and a short puff is just like taking a bite of the real thing. The strawberry also has a subtle sweetness that compliments the watermelon nicely.

Neither flavor seems to overpower and both work in harmony to produce a flavor that I just couldn’t put down! This was the other one I choose to vape till the end and again I was genuinely disappointed when it ran out!

Triple Berry

Lost Vape OB5500 - Triple Berry

Last but no means least, the Triple Berry has some wickedly sour tones that tantalize the tastebuds! Packed full of delicious, mouth-watering fruits it’s actually quite hard to pin down any one particular flavor.

The strawberry seems really subtle with what I’m guessing are blueberry and blackberry notes taking the forefront. Easily another all day vape for me and one I’m looking forward to enjoying some more.

Having sampled the entire range I can safely say Lost Vape knows a thing or two about creating flavors! Even the one or two flavors that weren’t quite my cup of tea were still enjoyable vapes.

There’s certainly at least 3 flavors (Strawberry Watermelon, Kiwi Passion Fruit Guava and Bluerazz Lemonade) that I know I’ll be buying again.

It’s clear that Lost Vape have spent a great deal of time in creating unique blends that set the OB5500 a step above the rest!

Lost Vape OB5500 | Price

As a brand new release there don’t seem to be many stores currently stocking the OB5500, but I’d expect that to change very, very soon!

One store I found (ECigMafia) has a listing price of $14.99 but incredibly has a sale running with a price tag of just $8.99! This makes the OB5500 one of the best value for money vapes I’ve ever used!

Another popular store (Element Vape) is currently offering the OB5500 for just $11.99. If you remember that this tiny disposable could last a light vaper anywhere up to 1 month, an asking price of under $15 is an absolute steal!

This cost pales in comparison to the price you’d pay for cigarettes or even single day disposables like the popular 600 puff Elf Bar.

As you can probably already tell, I was blown away by the design, quality and performance of the OB5500! The fact you can get all this for under $15 makes buying one a real no-brainer!

Lost Vape OB5500 | Verdict

Having swooned over the Orion Bar 7500 in my review earlier this year, I had high expectations for the OB5500! Thankfully I wasn’t disappointed. For such a small, compact disposable to offer such an incredibly long lifespan is a sheer feat of engineering.
