Welcome to VapingHardware’s review on the second of the latest “Argus” pod devices to come from Voopoo; their Argus Pod SE Kit. We recently reviewed the Voopoo Argus G pod kit so feel free to take a look at that one if you’re after that little bit more control and functionality.

The Argus Pod SE kit compliments the ever growing range of Argus pod devices which are based on ease of use and simplicity and mostly aimed at the new user vape market. Each of the 5 different Argus Pod bodies; Argus Pod, Argus P1, Argus Z, Argus G and now the Argus Pod SE are all different but with one common factor, they all accept the same well renowned 0.7 ohm/1.2 ohm pod (cartridge) so are cross compatible between all 5 devices.

If that wasn’t enough, Voopoo have released an “empty” pod (sold separately) that accepts their range of ITO replaceable coils making this even more versatile. I have purchased these “empty” pods so do keep a look out as we are planning to do a quick review on these pods with the ITO coils shortly.
We weren’t fortunate enough to have reviewed the original Argus Pod device that came out about a year ago although this upgraded Argus Pod SE kit is similar in appearance. The main difference being the Argus Pod SE doesn’t have variable wattage control and the little display which was on the original has been omitted and replaced with 3 LED’s which now act as the user interface.
Overview of the Argus Pod SE Kit

The Voopoo Argus Pod SE kit is a Mouth-To-Lung (MTL) draw activated 18W max pod device with variable airflow control and smart coil detection which automatically senses the resistance of the fitted pod and sets the optimum wattage for that particular pod/coil. The wattage is therefore not adjustable but set by the Gene AI 1.2 chip set.
There is no fire button (draw activated only) or OLED display, instead it has 3 rectangular small LED’s on the side edge of the Argus Pod SE body which highlight the status of the battery during use and while it’s charging. These LED’s will also identify the relevant safety notifications and prompts by displaying different sequential flashes of the lights.
Even though it’s minimalistic in design and function, it’s small and very compact, similar in size to the Argus Z. The performance in terms of flavor and vapor from the two included 0.7 ohm and 1.2 ohm Argus pods in the kit far exceeds its stature.
These pods are refillable but have fixed integrated coils so are NOT replaceable. From my experience when using the pods in the other Argus devices, the coil in each pod last several weeks, sometimes months before they need replacing. For those folk who prefer replaceable coils, empty pods are available with a range of replaceable ITO coils, so only the coil would need changing rather than the entire pod.

The Argus Pod SE is powered by an internal rechargeable 800mAh capacity battery. Charging the battery is pretty quick (50 minutes) via the Type-C USB charging port, specified as 5V/1A, located on the bottom of the device body.

Towards the top of the Argus Pod SE on the front face of the body is a small variable airflow control slider that provides about 3mm of travel from open to closed to adjust the tightness of the MTL draw.
Both of the two pods supplied with the kit are very slightly tinted so the 2ml e-liquid capacity is very clearly visible. These are a side-fill design with the fill port concealed behind a standard silicone rubber bung that’s accessible once the pod is removed. The mouthpiece is a duckbill style and the pod is magnetically secured to the top of the Argus Pod SE pod recess.

Its design and shape is a slim rectangular (flattened tube style) device with curved side edges making it very tactile. The overall size of the Argus Pod SE including the pod is 93.2mm high by 26.1mm wide by 13.8mm deep, with a weight of 56 grams. It’s manufactured out of Zinc Alloy so not only feels very robust but gives a great quality feel too.

The color we received to review was “Shiny Orange” (which does look like copper). There are two matching color inlay panels on the front and reverse sides which look like hologram chevrons when viewed against certain light angles. There are a total of 5 different colors which include a “Shiny Blue” with the same chevron design and a further 3 different color leather panels (Black, Brown and Red) with a semi-matte black frame.
Overall, the Argus Pod SE is very compact, looks very elegant in the two “Shiny” finishes and stunning in the 3 leather finishes. It’s made of zinc alloy and leather meaning it has a bit of weight to it with a nice quality appearance.

Both of the two different included pods (0.7 ohm and 1.2 ohm) produce very good flavor and vapor which is why Voopoo continue to use these pods across 5 of their different Argus pod kits. We have previously reviewed these several times when reviewing the other Argus devices and can’t recommend them enough.
I would like to thank Whitney at Voopoo for sending us the Argus Pod SE kit. As always this review is completely unbiased and is my honest opinion of my findings while using and reviewing the supplied kit. Voopoo Argus Pod SE Kit Design and Appearance
Argus Pod SE Battery/Body

The Voopoo Argus Pod SE is a very compact sized MTL style draw device. It’s auto draw activated only (no fire button) and capable of providing up to a maximum of 18W of power. The wattage is not adjustable (no +/- buttons) but derived from the attached pod.

The Gene AI 1.2 chip set inside the Argus Pod SE will auto detect the resistance of the coil fitted in the pod being used and select the appropriate optimum wattage.

Voopoo have designed this device with minimal functionality, making it simple and straightforward to use with new vape users primarily in mind. Despite this, the impressive performance of the Argus Pod SE would suit any vaper i.e. beginner or experienced.

It’s powered by an 800mAh capacity rechargeable internal battery with a Type-C USB charging port on the bottom of the Argus Pod SE. This charging port is specified as 5V/1A and will fully charge the battery in approximately 50 minutes when using the supplied charging cable.
I’m pleased to see that Voopoo have incorporated a tiny battery vent pin-hole on the bottom side edge of the casing as a safety precaution.

Airflow control is achieved by a single adjustable slider on the front face of the Argus Pod SE body that’s positioned within a slightly raised shroud towards the top of the SE body. Moving the lever to the left will shut-off the airflow producing a tight MTL draw, sliding the lever to the right will open the airflow for a less restrictive airy MTL draw.

This airflow lever is adjustable over about 3mm of travel from open to closed and pretty restrictive so it won’t move of its own accord. Note: Because of the 3 vertical raised lines above the airflow slider, when using your thumb nail to adjust the lever your nail can get caught against one of the lines stopping the lever from moving.

Unlike the original Argus Pod, this new Argus Pod SE doesn’t have an OLED display but does have 3 small rectangular bar LED’s positioned beneath the zinc alloy frame on the side edge of the Argus Pod SE body. These illuminate when you insert or remove the pod showing the current battery status, illuminate when drawing on the pod, while charging the Argus Pod SE or when it’s displaying the different levels of protection.

The remaining battery status percentage is highlighted by the number of illuminated LED’s as follows:
- 1 white LED bar = 0% – 33% of remaining charge
- 2 white LED bars = 33% – 66% of remaining charge
- 3 white LED bars = 66% – 100% of remaining charge
- 3 red flashing LED bars = Low battery cut-off (no charge)
The on board Gene AI 1.2 chip controls the included safety features and provides the visual indications via the 3 LED’s as follows:
- Overtime protection (8 seconds)
- Low battery protection
- Short circuit protection
- High temperature protection
- Overcharge protection
The Argus Pod SE is constructed out of zinc alloy giving it a lightweight yet robust quality feel and measures 71mm tall (excluding the pod), 26.1mm wide by 13.8mm deep and weighs in at 48.5 grams. When the pod is attached, the overall height is 93.2mm with a combined weight of 56 grams.

On the top of the Voopoo Argus Pod SE is the 11mm recessed oval opening for the pod to be located which can be fitted either way round.
Within the pod recess are two gold plated spring loaded coil contact pins and two rectangular bar magnets that line up with the pod. There is also a smaller black auto draw sensor next to the central positive coil contact pin.

The bottom of the Argus Pod SE that houses the Type-C USB charging port is flat and has a color matching silicone rubber inlay with an opening around the Type-C charging port protecting the base from scratches when stood upright. This also serves as a non-slip mat.

Voopoo’s branding is limited to their name “Voopoo” screen printed in silver lettering on the reverse face of the device casing and in smaller lettering “Gene Chip Inside”. On the front face of the casing is the device type “Argus”. There is also “Designed By Voopoo” screen printed on one side edge of the Argus Pod SE body.

Strangely enough, the branding only shows the device name “Argus” but doesn’t show “Argus SE”.
There are 5 different color designs in the Argus Pod SE range:
- Shiny Orange
- Shiny Blue
- Black (leather)
- Brown (leather)
- Red (leather)

The two “Shiny” colors have color matching inlay facing panels with the holograms chevron effect arrows whereas the three “Leather” color options have leather inlay panels with a semi-matte black frame.
Overall, the Argus Pod SE feels solid, robust and well built. It’s very compact, feels very comfortable to hold, performs really well and in my opinion looks a great pod kit. It really is VERY small and fits perfectly in the hand.
Argus Pod

As we stated at the beginning of this review, the Argus pods are compatible with the Argus Pod, Argus P1, Argus Z, Argus G and now this one; the Argus Pod SE. We’ve previously used both of the pods before when we reviewed the Argus Z, Argus G and Argus P1 pod kits so if you’ve read any of those reviews before, this section will be very familiar as they are the same pods.
What we can say though is for performance and longevity they produce a really good MTL/RDL vape and last well over the recommended number of refills before the coil starts to degrade. Throughout my time using these pods in the Argus range of kits I’m getting well over a month, sometimes 2 months of use from them.

The Argus pod is a side refillable pod with a 2ml e-liquid capacity. Two pods are included in the kit, one has an integrated 0.7 ohm coil and the other has a 1.2 ohm integrated coil. The coils are NOT replaceable so once the coil degrades the whole pod will need replacing.

Each pod is manufactured out of clear opaque lightweight PCTG material making this really easy to see the level of e-liquid through the pod. The mouthpiece is a duckbill shape with a 9mm oval opening tapering to a 4mm circular cut-out to cater for the MTL vape style.

Its dimensions are 32.5mm tall by 25.4mm wide and 13.4mm deep. The weight of the pod is 7.25 grams.

The Argus pods side fill port is concealed behind a flush fitting black silicone rubber plug. To gain access to the fill port, the pod has to be removed from the Argus Pod SE body. This plug has an indented arrow on it which identifies which end is to be lifted away to gain access to the filling port.

When the plug is opened, the other end of the silicone rubber flap will remain attached to the pod so it won’t get lost. It can be swiveled to the side to give easier access to the filling hole. This e-liquid fill port is a reasonable size measuring 4.5mm, so it’s just big enough to accept short stubby e-liquid tip bottles.

On the underside of the pod are 4 small air intake holes, two either side of the integrated coil. There are no visible magnets on the base of the pod because they’re concealed beneath the PCTG material of the pod.

Branding on the pod on the bottom section that’s fitted into the Argus Pod SE pod recess has “Voopoo” indented on one side of the pod and the coil resistance “0.7 or 1.2 ohms” indented into the silicone rubber fill port bung.
Inserting the pod is straight-forward enough, simply place the pod to the Argus Pod SE body recessed pod opening and it will slide into the recess and be locked and held in place by the magnets.

Removing the pod is carried out by grasping the pod mouthpiece and pulling away from the Argus Pod SE body/battery. It is a reasonably secure fit so is quite easy to remove.
When the pod is inserted or removed from the Argus Pod SE body, the LED’s will light briefly. The number of LED’s that show depends on the remaining charge left in the battery.
Voopoo Argus Pod SE Functionality

The Voopoo Argus Pod SE pod kit is very simple and straightforward to use. It doesn’t have any menu options to worry over, there are no variable power controls or fire button (auto draw only), nor an on/off switch. The only adjustment is the variable airflow slider to control the airflow intake.
Depending on the pod you’re using, the Argus Pod SE will automatically detect the coil resistance in that pod and set the power level (wattage) accordingly. Unfortunately we don’t have individual power wattage figures for the 0.7 ohm pod or the 1.2 ohm pod other than it operates at equal to or less than 18W.
What I can assume though is because the “Smart Coil Detect” in the Argus G sets the wattage to their optimum value for each pod, the Argus Pod SE will operate at these same wattage’s. If this is the case then the operating wattage values for each pod are as follows:
- 0.7 ohm pod = 16W
- 1.2 ohm pod = 10W

While there is no numerical OLED display, the Argus Pod SE does have 3 small rectangular bar LED’s that are positioned on the side edge of the Argus Pod SE body. These provide the user interface (UI) in terms of highlighting the current battery status and indicating the different levels of protection.
They will illuminate when the pod is inserted or removed, when you draw on the device or it’s being charged as follows:
- 1 white LED bar = 0% – 33% of remaining charge
- 2 white LED bars = 33% – 66% of remaining charge
- 3 white LED bars = 66% – 100% of remaining charge
- 3 red flashing LED bars = Low battery cut-off (no charge)
The on board Gene AI 1.2 chip also controls the included safety features and provides the visual indications via the 3 LED’s as follows:
- Charging: – LED’s will slowly cycle and increase in number
- Full charge: – All 3 LED’s will remain illuminated (static)
- Current battery status: – 1, 2 or 3 LED’s will illuminate
- Low battery: – All LED’s flash red 10 times
- Pod inserted/removed: – 1, 2 or 3 LED’s will illuminate
- Short circuit: – LED’s will flash red 2 times
- Overtime protection (8 seconds): – All LED’s will flash red 8 times
- Temp High: – All LED’s flash red 15 times
Airflow
The Voopoo Argus Pod SE incorporates an adjustable airflow control slider on the front facing side of the casing, positioned within the square segregated panel towards the top of the Argus Pod SE body.
When the airflow control slider is in the right position the airflow is open and provides an airy MTL draw or RDL draw. Moving the airflow control slider to the left, the airflow will be closed off which provides a tight restrictive MTL draw. You can position the lever anywhere between min and max to tweak your preferred vaping style.
Voopoo Argus Pod SE Performance
Included in the Argus G Pod kit are two pods; a 0.7 ohm and a 1.2 ohm pod. As we’ve already mentioned, these pods don’t have replaceable coils therefore once the coil becomes degraded, the pod will have to be disposed of and a new one fitted.
We’ve used both these pods before when we reviewed the Argus P1 and Argus G and were very impressed with the results. Voopoo specify in their description of these two pods that they will last for 14 refills. This is a very conservative figure as in my experience when using them in the Argus P1 and Argus G, I FAR exceed this figure.
Having used both the new pods that came with the Argus Pod SE kit, I compared them against the two older pods that came with the Argus G kit. Considering the older pods have been used for well over a month with approximately 50+ refills, the flavor and vapor showed very little difference between the old and the new pods.
This really is testament to Voopoo and obviously why they continue to use the same pods across their Argus range of kits.
As with most MTL vape pods, freebase nicotine or nic salts with a PG/VG ratio of 50/50 is recommended because of the smaller wicking ports in the coil and the lower power (wattage) used. I do occasionally cycle 70VG/30PG e-liquid through these pods with no problems at all.
When first using a new pod, I would recommend filling the pod with your e-liquid and leaving it to stand for 10-15 minutes to allow the e-liquid to saturate into the wick before vaping. This really will help to prolong the life of the coil within the pod. Equally do ensure you don’t let the e-liquid level in the pod run lower than the wicking ports of the coil, otherwise this will destroy the coil/pod.
0.7 ohm Pod

When the pod is inserted into the Argus Pod SE body, the “Auto Coil Detect” will set the wattage to its optimum value. As mentioned earlier I believe this to be 16W. This fixed wattage straight away produced really good flavor and vapor and the power level gave a very satisfying vape.
Auto draw worked perfectly, irrespective of the airflow setting. The draw was smooth and quiet with no gurgling issues. My preferred airflow setting while using this pod was half open which gave me a nice restricted direct to lung (RDL) draw.
There were no problems with leakage or condensation around the base of the coil. The only evidence of e-liquid seepage is around the fill port. This is easily resolved by wiping any excess away when refilling with a paper towel.
1.2 ohm Pod

When the pod is inserted into the Argus Pod SE body, the “Auto Coil Detect” will set the wattage to its optimum value. As mentioned earlier I believe this to be 10W. This fixed wattage straight away produced really good flavor and vapor and the power level gave a very satisfying vape.
Auto draw worked very well but will require a slightly stronger draw if the airflow control is fully open. The draw was smooth and quiet with no gurgling issues. My preferred airflow setting while using this pod was just off closed which gave a nice restricted (tight) mouth to lung (MTL) draw.
There were no problems with leakage or condensation around the base of the coil. As with the 0.7 ohm pod, seepage can occur around the fill port but it’s easily resolved by wiping any excess away when refilling.
Airflow
The airflow slider adjustment worked very well and has a very tight restrictive feel to the slider. The 3 vertical raised bars above the airflow slider can be a pain at times as my thumb nail kept getting caught between the bars which prevents the slider from moving.
Once set in the position you desire, this will NOT move. Even when the airflow slider is fully closed off, a very tight draw is still achieved.
Auto Draw
Auto draw works faultlessly and is very responsive. When using the 1.2 ohm pod with the airflow wide open, a stronger draw was needed to activate but this is to be expected.
Performance Summary

Both the 0.7 ohm and 1.2 ohm pods are very impressive. Flavor and vapor from them was really good and the throat hit was perfect. The integrated coils far exceed their stated amount of refills and for this I cannot fault them.
I also have to commend Voopoo for NOT making the tint on the pod darker. While it has a very slight tint, it IS clear enough to see the e-liquid level in almost any light.
Voopoo Argus Pod SE Battery Performance

The Voopoo Argus Pod SE’s 800mAh internal rechargeable battery is a pretty good capacity for a pod of this size and on average was giving me around 11 hours of average vaping time on a single charge. This length of time was impressive, much more than I would have expected.
Battery performance is always subjective and depends on the resistance of pod you’re using, the frequency you vape and your vaping style.
The Argus Pod SE indicates the status of the battery in one of three ways; removing the pod, inserting the pod or drawing on the pod. In each case the 3 LED’s will illuminate corresponding to the remaining battery level as follows:
- Flashing red LED’s = No remaining charge left
- 1 white LED illuminated = 0% – 33% of remaining battery charge
- 2 white LED’s illuminated = 33% – 66% of remaining battery charge
- 3 white LED’s illuminated = 66% -100% of battery charge
Interestingly, when you draw on the pod, the LED(s) will illuminate straight away, whereas removing or inserting the pod will cause the LED(s) to count upwards till they reach the correct remaining battery charge.
I recorded the approximate vaping time between each stage of LED change while using the 1.2 ohm pod as follows:
- 3 LED’s – 2 LED’s = 4.5 hours
- 2 LED’s – 1 LED = 3 hours
- 1 LED – All 3 LED’s flashing red = 4 hours
- Total vape time between charges is 11.5 hours
Once the battery is depleted of its charge as depicted by the low voltage cut-off value (3.2V), the Argus Pod SE’s LEDs will flash red 10 times and you will no longer be able to vape.
At this stage you will need to charge the device. We’ve covered charging the Argus Pod SE in detail in the How do I Charge the Argus Pod SE section. Unfortunately the Argus Pod SE doesn’t have pass-through so you won’t be able to vape while it’s being charged.
Note: Be aware that the vaping times I recorded above are only a guide as my vaping style may be different from others. Also if you’re using the 0.7 ohm pod these vaping times will reduce due to the increased wattage the coil works at.
How do I Fill the Argus Pod SE Pod?
The Voopoo Argus pod is a side fill design. You’ll have to remove the pod from the Argus Pod SE battery/body in order to fill with e-liquid.

The fill port is located on one side of the pod casing and is concealed behind a black silicon rubber flap. This flap sits flush with the side of the pod. A small arrow highlights which part of the rubber flap lifts away.
This silicone rubber flap is attached to the pod by a small rubber pin so there’s no chance of it getting lost. It can be twisted sideways when you’re filling to give a little more free room. Because the fill port opening is pretty wide (4.5mm), it’ll accept those larger e-liquid/shortfill bottle tips.

Pull open the flap and insert your e-liquid bottle tip into the opening. Tilt the pod on its side to aid filling and to get the maximum amount of e-liquid into the pod. Once filled, re-insert the silicon rubber flap making sure the fill port is securely re-seated.
Re-insert the pod into the Argus Pod SE body till it’s held in place by the magnetic catches. As the pod makes contact with the Argus Pod SE body, the LED(s) will briefly illuminate. The number of LED’s illuminated relates to the remaining charge left in the battery.
Quick Tip: If you are filling the pod for the first time, once filled, leave to stand for approx. 10-15 minutes before you start to vape. This will help saturate the wick fully in e-liquid and help prolong the life of the coil/pod.
When and How do I Change the Argus Pod?
Because both of the included Argus pods have fixed non replaceable coils, when the coil starts to degrade after a couple of weeks/months use, the pod will need to be discarded and a new pod fitted.
An indication of the coil degrading will show by either a loss of flavor and/or a lack of vapor. Continuing beyond this loss of flavor/vapor may finally result in a nasty burnt taste. Equally the coil could break going open or short circuit as shown by prompt/notification on the 3 LED’s. Either way, when this happens discard the pod and fit a new one.

Pull the pod away from the Argus Pod SE battery/body. Unfortunately if you still have e-liquid in the pod, this will have to be discarded as well.
When fitting a new pod, follow the procedure for How do I Fill the Pod. As you insert the pod into the Argus Pod SE body, the LED’s will briefly illuminate to identify the current discharge status of your battery.
How do I Charge the Voopoo Argus Pod SE?

The Argus Pod SE has an internal 800mAh capacity battery therefore charging is carried out using the USB to Type-C charging cable (supplied in the kit). Simply connect this cable into the Type-C port on the bottom of the Argus Pod SE body and the other end into a suitable USB power source. The specified charging circuit of the Argus Pod SE is 5V/1A.
Charging is required once the 3 LED’s on the side of the Argus Pod SE start to flash red 10 times. Once they flash you will no longer be able to vape because the Argus Pod SE will shut down (low voltage cutoff).

When the Argus Pod SE is placed on charge, the first lower white LED will continually cycle on and off. Once the battery reaches 33% of its charge, both the 1st and 2nd LED’s will sequentially cycle. When the battery reaches 66% of its charge, all 3 LED’s will continually cycle and sequentially increase until a full charge is reached at which point all 3 LED’s will turn static and remain illuminated.

When charging is completed (all LED’s constantly illuminated), remove the power source and USB cable and you’re good to start vaping again. I did leave the power source connected for a further 20 minutes just to double check if the LED’s would extinguish but they didn’t.
Unfortunately the Argus Pod SE does NOT include pass-through so you cannot vape while it’s being charged. A perfect excuse to buy a second Argus Pod SE so you’re never without a working vape!
Charging time from full discharge to fully charged will take approximately 50 minutes when using a 5V/1A power source. I timed the charging cycle using this 1A source to determine the length of time it took for each of the bar LED’s to cycle as follows:
- 1 LED – 2 LED’s = 26 minutes
- 2 LED’s – 3 LED’s = A further 14 minutes
- All LED’s Static = A further 10 minutes
- Total charging time = 50 minutes
While the Argus Pod SE is on charge, it does remain cool to the touch but I would still recommend to ONLY charge the device on a non-flammable surface.
As with any vape device, NEVER leave it unattended whilst charging.
Voopoo Argus Pod SE Pod Kit Price
Build quality, functionality and performance are top notch. The replaceable pods are some of the best we’ve come across. The Shiny Orange one we received with the hologram chevrons looks good but I really do like the look of the other leather color options.
This is another great kit from Voopoo and very reasonably priced considering it comes with both the 0.7 ohm and 1.2 ohm pods.

Voopoo Argus Pod SE Pod Kit Summary

The Voopoo Argus Pod SE kit is being marketed as an entry level pod kit, but I’d say this would suit any level of vaper. The ease of use is perfect for the novice vaper yet the vape performance would please even the most advanced vapers.
It’s very compact and the performance from both the device and pods is very good. The build quality is fantastic and it looks like it would take a lot of punishment and still work. The leather side panel color options look terrific and I will be getting one very soon!
Battery capacity at 800mAh is about average for the size of the device but don’t be put off by this. This will still provide a whole day’s vaping on a single charge. A 50 minute charging time is also very quick.
Even though the coils are integrated and not replaceable, the pods are refillable and I really can’t praise them enough as they last for weeks/months before they need replacing.
Auto draw worked faultlessly and the airflow control gives you that little extra to fine tune your vaping draw style.
For a simple straightforward to use pod kit this is an excellent device. It’s small enough to be taken anywhere and performs as good, if not better than the majority of the pods in the market place today.
