Our review today is on Voopoo’s latest release to the ever growing range of Argus pod kits, their Argus Z3. We missed an upgrade here somewhere along the way as the last device we reviewed in the Argus Z range was the original Argus Z pod kit back in early 2023. Since then, Voopoo released the upgraded Argus Z2 at the beginning of 2025 and now this Argus Z3 in September 2026.

Voopoo Argus Z3 reverse view image of the airflow slider

This Argus Z3 follows in the same theme as its earlier releases in they are designed to be simplistic with minimal functionality and control. This provides a straightforward hassle free vaping experience at a very cost effective price tag without compromising on the quality we’ve come to expect from Voopoo.

Voopoo Argus Z3 kit that includes the Argus Multi-Ohm cartridge

The great news is the new Voopoo Argus Z3 pod kit comes shipped with the latest Multi-Ohm cartridge (pod) that’s hot in the vaping world at the moment. Having used these cartridges since our review of the Argus G4 and G4 Mini kits back in June, together with our other review of the Argus Multi-Ohm Cartridge, they really do open up a whole new different vaping experience from just the one cartridge.

Overview of the Voopoo Argus Z3

Voopoo Argus Z3 held in hand showing the size comparison

The Voopoo Argus Z3 pod kit is very simple and easy to use as it’s been designed with this purpose in mind. It has no power adjustments, no buttons or menus but does have variable step-less airflow to fine tune your draw. Simply fill the multi-ohm cartridge and decide which way you insert the cartridge for your preferred vaping style. Despite its simplicity, the performance does far outweigh its limited functionality.

It’s a Mouth-To-Lung (MTL) and Restricted-Direct-To-Lung (RDL) draw activated pod device (dependent on cartridge orientation) and powered by an internal rechargeable 1100mAh capacity battery. Charging the Argus Z3 is carried out using a Type-C charging cable (not supplied) plugged into the USB charging port (5V/1.0A) located on the left hand side edge of the device body.

6 different colors in the Argus Z3 range

Resembling a flattened tube shape and similar in appearance to its predecessors, the Argus Z3 is manufactured out of PCTG and leather making it extremely lightweight and compact. There are 6 colors available in the Argus Z3 range and the color we received to review was Denim Blue.

Output power on the Argus Z3 is determined by the orientation of the Multi-Ohm cartridge

Output power is fixed between an operating range of 5W – 20W with the optimum wattage level determined by auto sensing the multi-ohm cartridge resistance. One Argus Multi-Ohm cartridge is supplied with the Argus Z3 kit which has a dual resistance of 0.7 ohms and 1.0 ohms.

These multi-ohm cartridges have a 2ml or 3.5ml capacity, are semi-opaque with a very slight smoked tint and are a top located side-fill design which doesn’t need to be removed from the Z3 body to fill. The mouthpiece is a duckbill style and the cartridge is magnetically secured to the top pod recess of the Argus Z3 body.

Argus Z3 showing the GREEN LEDs for the 1.0 ohm configuration.

The only visible display on the Argus Z3 are 4 dual colored LEDs that illuminate when you draw on the cartridge showing the remaining battery charge, illuminate when charging the device or they’re displaying the different levels of protection. These LEDs change color for the two resistance values of the multi-ohm cartridge; blue for 0.7 ohms and green for 1.0 ohms, so you instantly know which resistance you’re using.

Before we jump into the main body of our review, I would like to thank Siren and Rebecca at Voopoo for sending us the Argus Z3 pod kit to review. We will always give a completely unbiased and honest view of our findings while using and reviewing the supplied kit.

Front side view of the Argus Z3

The Voopoo Argus Z3 is a very lightweight and compact sized MTL/RDL style auto draw device (no fire button) and capable of providing up to 20W of power. The wattage is not adjustable but derived from the attached cartridge. It will auto detect the orientation of the multi-ohm cartridge which in turn detects the coil resistance being used and selects the optimum wattage.

It’s powered by an 1100mAh capacity rechargeable internal battery with a Type-C USB charging port on the left side edge of the Argus Z3 casing which is specified as 5V/1.0A. A full charge takes approximately 95 minutes when using a standard Type-C charging cable but one isn’t included in the kit. It does have pass-thru so you can charge and vape at the same time. I will cover more about charging in the Charging the Argus Z3 section of this review.

The Argus Z3 is constructed out of PCTG and leather giving it a robust quality feel, while maintaining its light weight and measures 84mm tall (excluding the cartridge), 27.8mm wide by 16.2mm deep and weighs in at a mere 33.8 grams. When the multi-ohm cartridge is attached, the overall height is 113mm and the combined weight is 41.25 grams with the 3.5ml cartridge and 41.65 grams with the 2ml cartridge.

All 6 colors of the Argus Z3

There are 6 different color designs in the Argus Z3 range, these being:

  • Pearl White
  • Cyber Black
  • Blazing Orange
  • Denim Blue
  • Grass Green
  • Coral Pink

You can see from the photos of the Argus Z3 battery/casing that the side edges and frame of the one we received to review are dark blue PC with a ribbed pattern whereas the front and back panels are in-layed with a colored textured leather hide. Both these surfaces provide a good anti-slip surface.

Its visible display is in the form of 4 dual color changing LEDs positioned on the upper part of the casing that sit beneath 4 rectangular slots in the leather hide. These provide the UI indications and illuminate in either blue or green when you insert the pod, illuminate while drawing on the pod, when it’s being charged or it’s displaying the 8 different levels of protection:

  • Poor Connection
  • Overtime Protection (5s)
  • Overcharge Protection
  • Over Temperature Protection
  • Short-Circuit Protection
  • Low Battery Protection
  • Output Over-Current Protection
  • Max Power Protection

Variable airflow control on the Argus Z3 uses the same single Cyclops slot with a sliding lever as on some other Argus devices. Positioning the lever to the left closes the airflow and restricts the draw to a single small air intake hole. Sliding the lever to the right opens up 1 or 2 bigger oblong holes. The style of draw (MTL/RDL) is also dependent on which was round the multi-ohm cartridge has been fitted.

Fixed hole on the side of the Argus Z3

Even though the Argus Z3 has the variable airflow slider, there is an even smaller fixed hole on the side of the Argus Z3 casing that could be an additional air intake.

Pod recess view of the Argus Z3

On top of the Voopoo Argus Z3 is the 24.5mm recessed oval opening for the cartridge to be located which obviously can be fitted either way round. Within the pod recess are two gold plated spring loaded coil contact pins, two rectangular bar magnets that line up with the cartridge and a smaller auto draw sensor next to the central positive coil contact pin.

Voopoo’s branding is very discrete with the two crossed link “OO” company logo branded into the textured leather just above the LEDs and “Argus” towards the base of the device. On the reverse (airflow) side is “Voopoo” branded towards the bottom.

Argus Z3 fits comfortably in the hand

Overall, the Argus Z3 feels pretty solid, robust and well built. It’s very compact, very lightweight, feels very comfortable and tactile to hold. Yes it has limited function but that was the intention of Voopoo to provide a simple no fuss vape system. Despite its simplicity, performance wise it really shines.

Argus Multi-Ohm Cartridge

Side view of the Argus 3.5ml argus multi-ohm cartridge
Fill port side view of the Argus 3.5ml argus multi-ohm cartridge

Voopoo has developed an industry first, redesigning the earlier version of Argus pod, bringing us the Argus Multi-Ohm cartridge which we first come across when reviewing the Argus G4 and G4 Mini kits. This cartridge integrates dual resistances (0.7 ohm/1.0 ohm) into one pod.

3 Pin electrodes of the Argus Multi-Ohm cartridge
2 Pin coil plate on the Argus Pod

This is achieved by Voopoo’s Multi-Core Electrode Tech which in essence utilizes a 3 electrode configuration of positive + negative + positive. This is a game changer when compared to the standard 2-pin (coil base plate) configuration of positive and negative for their earlier Argus and Argus V2 pods.

pod recess view and base of the cartridge view showing the magnets, airflow and coil contacts

Changing between 0.7Ω and 1.0Ω is as simple as flipping the pod around in the pod recess. When paired with the Argus G4, a third resistance of 0.4 ohm can be selected by double-pressing the control button which activates both positive pins simultaneously enabling the lower and upper heating elements to work together (0.7Ω and 1.0Ω in parallel equals 0.4Ω).

2ml and 3.5ml versions of the Argus multi-ohm cartridge

These new Argus Multi-Ohm cartridges are manufactured out of slightly tinted (smoked) lightweight PCTG material, are top side fill pods and have a 2ml e-liquid capacity for TPD regions and 3.5ml for other regions. The two different capacity cartridges have the same physical dimensions but the 2ml version has e-liquid restrictors inside the e-liquid reservoir.

view of the protection sticker on the base of the multi-ohm cartridge removed and fitted

When first installing your Argus Multi-Ohm cartridge, make sure you remove the thin plastic film from the base of the cartridge. They come shipped with this protector so they can’t be accidentally fired before e-liquid has been added.

Mouthpiece view of the multi-ohm cartridge

Overall dimensions are 39.7mm tall by 25.5mm wide and 13.5mm deep and weigh 7.45 grams (2ml cartridge weighs 7.85 grams). The mouthpiece is a duckbill shape with a 9mm oval opening tapering to a 4mm circular cut out to cater for the MTL/RDL vaping styles.

fill port stopper closed on the Argus Multi-Ohm Cartridge

To gain access to the fill port, the silicone rubber bung has “Open” branded into the rubber and an indented arrow on it which identifies the end to open and be lifted away to gain access to the filling port. As with most of these bungs, it does help if you have finger nails to get under the flap otherwise it’s a bit tricky.

Fill port stopper open on the Argus multi-ohm cartridge

When the plug is opened, the other end of the silicone rubber flap will remain attached to the cartridge so it won’t get lost. It can be swivelled to the side to give easier access to the filling hole. This e-liquid fill port is a reasonable size measuring 4.5mm so is just big enough to accept short stubby e-liquid tip bottles.

Close up view of the base of the Argus multi-ohm cartridge

On the underside of the cartridge, which is colored orange, are 2 small diagonally opposed air intake holes either side of the integrated coil with its 3 coil contact plates. There are also two bar magnets on the base of the cartridge that locate with the magnets in the pod recess of the Argus Z3.

0.7 ohm view and 1.0 ohm view of the Argus Multi-Ohm Cartridge

Branding on these cartridges has “Voopoo” and “0.7Ω” screen printed on one side with “Argus” and “1.0Ω” on the other side. It’s quite hard to clearly read this branding but does show up in different lights.

Inserting the multi-ohm cartridge into the pod recess of the Argus Z3

Inserting the cartridge is straight-forward enough, simply place the cartridge into the Argus Z3 body recessed pod opening and it will slide into the recess and be held in place by the magnets. Depending which way round the pod is inserted, 0.7 ohm or 1.0 ohm will be detected.

When the cartridge is inserted in the Argus Z3, the LED display will sequentially illuminate and increase in number relating to the charge left remaining in the battery in either blue or green. After 10 seconds, these LEDs will extinguish and the optimum operating wattage will be set:

Argus Z3 with 1 LED illuminated
Argus Z3 with 2 LEDs illuminated
Argus Z3 with 3 LEDs illuminated
Argus Z3 with 4 LEDs (all) illuminated
  • 1 LED = <25%
  • 2 LEDs = 26% – 50%
  • 3 LEDs = 51% – 75%
  • 4 LEDs = >76%
  • 0.7Ω = Blue LEDs
  • 1.0Ω = Green LEDs

Voopoo Argus Z3 – Functionality

Select the airflow adjustment and orientation of the cartridge and away you go

The Voopoo Argus Z3 pod kit is an auto-draw device and very straightforward to use. The only adjustments required are the variable step-less airflow slider and deciding which orientation you place the cartridge in. Choosing between 0.7Ω and 1.0Ω is simply done by flipping the cartridge 180o in the pod recess of the Argus Z3.

When using the Argus Z3, it will automatically detect the coil resistance from the orientation of the multi-ohm cartridge (0.7Ω or 1.0Ω) and set the power level (wattage) accordingly. The maximum wattage the Argus Z3 operates at is up to 20W.

The user interface (UI) display on the Argus Z3 has 4 small rectangular slots cut into the leather hide on the front of the casing body. Beneath these slots are 4 dual color changing LEDs that illuminate when the multi-ohm cartridge is inserted; blue for 0.7Ω and green for 1.0Ω. These LEDs also illuminate when you draw on the device, when the device is on charge, monitor the remaining charge left in the battery and indicating the 8 different levels of protection:

The Argus Z3 showing 50% battery charge remaining via its LEDs
The Argus Z3 showing 75% battery charge remaining via its LEDs
The Argus Z3 showing 100% battery charge remaining via its LEDs

Battery status i.e. the remaining charge left in the battery is determined by the number of visible LEDs. Each LED that’s illuminated relates to 25% of the battery power. 1 LED equals 25%, 2 LEDs equals 50% and so on.

We couldn’t determine the status of the LEDs for every protection/safety feature but have included the one’s we could identify below. The color of the LED(s) unless specified, only pertains to the resistance that’s being used i.e. 0.7Ω = Blue and 1.0Ω = Green.

  • Pod inserted: – LED(s) will illuminate once (5s). Number of LEDs is battery charge dependant
  • Drawing on the pod: – LEDs will count up 1-4, count down 4-1 then show battery charge (5s)
  • Charging: – LED(s) cycle on/off in green. Number of LEDs is battery charge dependant
  • Full charge: – LEDs will remain illuminated
  • Low battery: – All LEDs flash 3 times
  • Short circuit: – LEDs will flash once
  • Overtime protection (5 seconds): – All LEDs will flash 5 times

Voopoo Argus Z3 Performance

The multi-ohm cartridge is included with the Argus Z3 kit

Included with the Argus Z3 kit is the Argus Multi-Ohm cartridge and as we’ve already mentioned, they have a dual resistance of 0.7 ohm and 1.0 ohm (0.4 ohm when used with the Argus G4). These cartridges don’t have replaceable coils therefore once the coil becomes degraded, the cartridge will have to be disposed of and a new one fitted.

Argus G4 and Argus G4 Mini using the multi-ohm cartridge

From our combined time using these multi-ohm cartridges when used with the Argus G4 and Argus G4 Mini, together with this new Argus Z3, our results certainly exceed the specified 30day leak-free and 100ml endurance.

It’s worth pointing out that even though the Argus Z3 comes supplied with the multi-ohm cartridge, the earlier Argus pods and Argus V2 pods function equally as well in the Argus Z3. The multi-ohm cartridges also work with the earlier Argus kits too.

Airflow slider on the Argus Z3 provides a great MTL and RDL draw

Airflow slider design is becoming fairly standard on the last few Voopoo devices we’ve reviewed. Adjustment worked well and has a reasonably good resistive feel to the slider. Closing the airflow produced a restrictive MTL vape while opening it up provided a less restrictive (airy) RDL draw.

The Argus Z3 is very easy to use and is a great pod kit to take anywhere

Auto draw worked faultlessly throughout the time I was using and reviewing the Argus Z3. Irrespective of the position of the airflow, or the orientation of the multi-ohm cartridge, the draw was smooth, responsive and with minimal noise as you inhale. When the airflow is in the open position, you do have to increase the pressure of your draw in order for it to operate.

Argus Multi-Ohm Cartridge (pod)

The multi-ohm cartridge performs excellent with all e-liquids

Performance in terms of flavor and vapor in both orientations of 0.7 and 1.0 ohms produces crisp clean fresh flavor with more than enough vapor to provide a very satisfying vape. These Multi-Ohm cartridges work really well both below the minimum recommended wattage level (when used with a variable wattage device) and at the optimum set wattage with the Argus Z3.

E-liquid is clearly visible through the Argus Multi-Ohm cartridge.

Different flavored e-liquids have been used through these cartridges and in all cases the flavor shines through. Switching flavors in the same cartridge muted the original flavor after a few draws with the second and third flavors we tried showing very little notes of the earlier flavor.

Longevity of these multi-ohm cartridges far exceeds the specified 100ml. I’m still using the original cartridge that came with the Argus G4 back in June with nearly 200ml used and a puff count of over 20,000 puffs. Comparing this cartridge against the new cartridge from the Argus Z3 kit showed little sign of flavor or vapor depletion.

Have used many different refillable pods over the years, this Multi-Ohm cartridge certainly ranks in my top 3.

Battery Performance of the Argus Z3

The Argus Z3 is very comfortable to hold and fits lovely in your hand

Battery performance is always subjective and depends on the power (wattage) you vape at, the resistance of the pod/cartridge you’re using and your vaping style i.e. how often you vape and length of draw. The 1100mAh capacity rechargeable internal battery provides up to a days vaping before needing re-charging. As expected, the lower resistance, derived from the orientation of the cartridge will drain the battery slightly quicker.

Multi-Ohm Cartridge view of the 0.7 ohm side
Multi-Ohm Cartridge view of the 1.0 ohm side

When vaping using the 0.7 ohm orientation, I was achieving around 8 hours use before the display cut-out and started flashing. At 1.0 ohms the battery charge lasted nearly a full day’s vaping.

LEDs on the Argus Z3 indicate the remaining battery charge and cartridge resistance

The Argus Z3 indicates the status of the remaining battery charge on the 4 color changing LEDs. As the remaining charge decreases, the number of LEDs illuminated reduces. When the battery becomes fully discharged, the 4 LED lights will flash 3 times and the device will require charging.

The intensity of the draw remains the same throughout the discharge cycle of the battery. It doesn’t diminish as the battery drains and remained the same up to the point when the battery cuts out.

We’ve covered the charging process and what to expect in How do I Charge the Argus Z3 section of this review. Even though the Argus Z3 charge takes 1.5 hours, it does have pass-thru so you are able to vape while it’s being charged.

Filling the Argus Multi-Ohm Cartridge

Filling the Argus Multi-Ohm cartridge while its connected into the Argus Z3

These new Argus Multi-Ohm cartridges have the same top side-fill design as the earlier Argus pods so don’t have to be removed from the Argus Z3 in order to fill with e-liquid. It’s purely down to user preference whether you remove the cartridge or not.

Multi-Ohm cartridgeshowing its rubber stopper with the directional arrow and the words open.
Multi-Ohm Cartridge fill port stopper just being opened

The fill port is located on one side of the cartridge casing and is concealed behind a black silicone rubber stopper. A small arrow, just below the word “Open” is indented on the rubber flap highlighting which end of the rubber stopper lifts away to gain access to the fill port.

Rubber fill port stopper on the Argus Multi-Ohm cartridge turned round showing the fill port hole

This silicone rubber stopper is attached to the cartridge by a small rubber pin so there’s no chance of it getting lost. It can be swivelled side-wards when you’re filling to give that little more free room. Because the fill port opening is pretty wide (4.5mm), it’ll accept those larger e-liquid/shortfill/longfill bottle tips.

Filling the Argus Multi-Ohm cartridge with e-liquid

Pull open the stopper and insert your e-liquid bottle tip into the opening. Tilt the cartridge on its side to aid filling and to get the maximum amount of e-liquid into the cartridge. Once filled, re-insert the silicone rubber stopper making sure the fill port is securely re-seated.

Quick Tip: If you are filling the cartridge for the first time, once filled, leave to stand for approx. 10-15 minutes before you start to vape. This will help saturate the wick fully in e-liquid and help prolong the life of the coil/cartridge.

Changing the Argus Multi-Ohm Cartridge

Multi-Ohm cartridge removed from the pod recess of the Argus Z3

These Multi-Ohm cartridges have fixed non replaceable coils, therefore, when the coil starts to degrade after a few weeks/months of use, the cartridge will need to be discarded and a new cartridge fitted.

An indication of the coil degrading will show by a loss of flavor and/or a lack of vapor or worst case a dry cotton or burnt taste. Equally the coil could fail going open or short circuit as indicated on the UI display. Before discarding the cartridge, flip the cartridge around and see if the second resistance is still functioning.

Multi-Ohm cartridge being inserted into the Argus Z3

If both resistances fail, pull the cartridge away from the Argus Z3 battery/body. Unfortunately if you still have e-liquid in the cartridge, this will have to be discarded as well as it will have been tainted by the burnt out coil.

When fitting a new cartridge, follow the procedure for Filling the Argus Multi-Ohm Cartridge. As you insert the cartridge into the Argus Z3 body, the UI display will briefly illuminate to identify the cartridge has made electrical contact with the Argus Z3 battery contact pins in the pod recess.

Charging the Voopoo Argus Z3

USB-C charging cable plugged into the Argus Z3

The Argus Z3 has an internal 1100mAh capacity rechargeable battery therefore charging is carried out using a USB to Type-C charging cable (NOT supplied in the kit). Simply connect your cable into the Type-C port on the left side of the Argus Z3 body and the other end into a suitable USB power source.

This Type-C USB port is specified as 5V/1.0A and will fully charge the Argus Z3 in around 95 minutes. The Argus Z3 does have pass-through so you can vape while it’s being charged. If you charge using a lower current power source than 1A, the charging time will increase. Equally if you vape while it’s being charged, this will also increase the charging time.

When the 4 LEDs on the front of the Argus Z3 body flash 3 times, the battery will require charging. As you plug your Type-C cable into the charging port, the 1st LED will illuminate in green and cycle on/off. Once the charge reaches 25%, the 2nd LED will illuminate green and cycle on/off. At 50% of charge the 3rd LED will be green and cycle on/off, and at 75% of charge the 4th LED will illuminate green and cycle on/off.

Once charging is completed, the 4 LEDs will be illuminated green and remain static (not cycling). Interestingly the 4 LED’s will remain static as long as the charging cable is plugged into the charging port.

We monitored the accumulated time it took for each LED to illuminate and cycle on/off before the next LED illuminated. When the next LED cycles on and off, the previous LED remains static:

  • 1st LED Cycles then turns Static:                      31 minutes
  • 2nd LED Cycles then turns Static:                     53 minutes
  • 3rd LED Cycles then turns Static:                      75 minutes
  • 4th LED Cycles then turns Static:                      95 minutes
  • Full Charge = 95 minutes (1 hour 35 minutes)

While the Argus Z3 is being charged it does get warm to the touch which is normal. However, I would still recommend to ONLY charge the device, and any other device for that matter, on a non-flammable surface.

As with any vape device, NEVER leave it unattended whilst charging.

Voopoo Argus Z3 Pod Kit Price

The Voopoo Argus Z3 pod kit is retailing from as little as £12.99 (EcigOne) but typically will cost around £15-£20. It’s a beginner friendly kit with limited functionality and the price does reflect this. The performance and usability from the included Multi-Ohm cartridge does produce great results making this a worthy purchase.

Voopoo Argus Z3 Pod Kit Review Summary

The Voopoo Argus Z3 pod kit is, as designed, an entry level pod kit because of its simplicity. It’s compact, ultra lightweight and easy to use due to having a smart adaptive wattage output. It includes variable airflow control together with 4 LEDs that monitor the cartridge resistance and remaining battery charge.

A battery capacity of 1100mAh is decent enough and does give around a day’s vaping before needing a recharge, plus it has pass-thru so you won’t be without a vape. Charging times were a little long, taking around 95 minutes to fully charge.

Performance from the Multi-Ohm cartridge steals the show as expected and brings another dimension to your overall vaping experience. Flipping the cartridge between 0.7Ω and 1.0Ω functions extremely well giving you the different MTL or RDL draws.
