Voopoo Vrizz 2 Review | A Worthwhile Upgrade

Voopoo have redesigned their original Vrizz pod kit, which we reviewed earlier this year, and released the upgraded Voopoo Vrizz 2 which we are reviewing here today. While it resembles a similar form factor to the original release, there are a few worthwhile updates that improve upon its function.

The large 15ml re-fillable pod capacity remains but now incorporates a new Vrizz V2 cartridge with a dual mesh 0.4 ohm + 0.7 ohm combined coil and the filling port is now positioned on the bottom of the Vrizz V2 pod. Battery power has increased from 800mAh to a much larger 1350mAh capacity improving vape time between charges while the charging current has been boosted from 1A to 1.2A.

Output power has improved from 24W to a maximum 30W which is selectable in 3 different power modes of Eco, Norm and Turbo. Airflow has also been upgraded with a 4 position variable slider improving the Mouth-To-Lung (MTL) and Restricted-Direct-To-Lung (RDL) draw.

These changes really improve on what was already a very good device which Voopoo released as a sustainable option to replicate the big puff disposables.

As always we will give a quick overview covering the main points and features of the Voopoo Vrizz 2 and then jump in to the main body of the review covering everything there is to know.

Overview of the Voopoo Vrizz 2

The Voopoo Vrizz 2 is a box style device measuring 101.3mm high (including the pod) by 53.2mm wide and 25.4mm deep with a weight of 64.5 grams (97.25 grams with the pod fitted). Available in 8 different color finishes, 4 in colored Aluminum Alloy and PC and 4 in colored leather and PC.

It’s a draw activated Mouth-To-Lung (MTL) and Restricted-Direct-To-Lung (RDL) pod device with a re-fillable 15ml capacity bottom fill Vrizz V2 pod that uses a combined 0.4 ohm / 0.7 ohm dual mesh coil.

Powered by an internal 1350mAh capacity rechargeable battery, it’s charged via a 1.2A Type-C charging port on the bottom of the Voopoo Vrizz 2. Also on the base of the Vrizz 2 body is an adjustable airflow slider lever with a double row of 4 intake holes to fine tune your draw.

A large multi-colored half height full width display screen shows the 3 different pre-set wattage modes of ECO, NORM and TURBO that are selectable using the small push button at the bottom of the display. The remaining battery charge percentage status is also displayed with a dual 7-segment LED readout.

An e-liquid viewing window on the reverse back edge of the Vrizz 2 casing allows you to see the remaining e-liquid left in the pod without having to remove it. Lastly, a sprung metal lanyard latch above the display panel is there if you wish to use a lanyard but one isn’t supplied in the kit.

Note: The Vrizz 2 has a sprung metal lanyard mounting loop on the top front of its body casing but the kit doesn’t include a lanyard. The kit also doesn’t come with a charging cable.

Packaging of the Voopoo Vrizz 2

The packaging of the Voopoo Vrizz 2 has a lift open top flap with a plastic slide out molded insert. The Voopoo Vrizz 2 with the Vrizz V2 pod pre-fitted is held within this insert. On the underside of the plastic insert is a sealed clear plastic packet that contains the user manual.

On the front of the box is a photo of the Vrizz 2 in the color of the included device together with the branding “Voopoo”, “Vrizz 2” and a circular badge stating “Large 15ml Capacity”. The reverse side of the box details the “Contents”, “Manufacturer’s Details”, “CE/Kite mark logo’s” and the relevant safety warnings.

The left side of the box shows “Voopoo” in large lettering with an authentication sticker, bar code and QR code. The right side of the device states “Voopoo Vrizz 2” with 4 boxed icons showing “Vrizz Cartridge V2 Dual Mesh Tech”, “1 Cartridge up to 80K Puffs”, 1350mAh High-Density Battery” and “As Simple as a Disposable”. Below these icons is a bar code with the color and color name of the included device.

Overall dimensions of the Voopoo Vrizz 2 packaging box measures 132mm tall by 72mm wide and 35mm deep.

Preparing to Use the Voopoo Vrizz 2

When you first unbox your Voopoo Vrizz 2 device, it comes pre-fitted with the Vrizz V2 pod (cartridge) that has the 0.4/0.7 ohm combined coil. Before you can use your device, take the pod out and remove the clear thin film protector from the sides and base of the pod. This protects the coil contacts during transportation and stops it from firing.

Unplug the orange silicone rubber e-liquid bung on the bottom of the Vrizz V2 pod and fill with e-liquid. It has a 15ml e-liquid capacity so have plenty to hand! Re-secure the rubber bung and wait for 10-15 minutes before you refit the pod into the Vrizz 2 body.

There is no On/Off button so as you insert the Vrizz V2 pod the large display will illuminate. There is a clear protection sticker around the smoked black display screen, this can be removed now as it will start to look messy during use.

At the bottom of the display is a small oval button, this has no other function than to select the 3 different preset power modes. Press the button and scroll through the power modes so the ECO mode is highlighted.

I always suggest when using a new pod to vape for a few minutes at the lowest power level, in this case ECO mode to pull e-liquid through the pod to slowly bed the new pod/coil in. Each press of the oval control button will select the next preset power level and increase the power level to NORM and TURBO respectively.

Lastly, you can adjust the airflow control slider on the bottom of the Vrizz 2 to adjust the air intake to suit the type of draw you require.

Voopoo Vrizz 2 Design and Appearance

Voopoo Vrizz 2 Battery/Body

The Voopoo Vrizz 2 comes in 8 different colors; 4 which are constructed out of PC with wrap-around Aluminum Alloy and 4 which are PC with wrap-around leather. Each one measures 83.6mm tall (excluding the pod), 53.2mm wide by 25.4mm deep and weighs in at 64.5 grams. When the Vrizz V2 pod is fitted, the overall height is 101.3mm and the combined weight is 97.25 grams. When the Vrizz V2 pod is filled with e-liquid, the total weight is approx 114 grams.

We received the Blue Leather Voopoo Vrizz 2 which is the one shown within this review.

Power output is selectable in 3 pre-set power modes. While the earlier Vrizz showed the power levels of 12W, 18W and 24W respectively, the Vrizz 2 shows ECO, NORM and TURBO. The minimum power range is still 12W but the maximum power has increased to 30W. What I couldn’t determine was what the wattage was at these 3 different modes. I’m assuming 12W = ECO, 30W = TURBO with NORM being between the two.

It’s a reasonably large box style MTL and RDL draw activated device with a variable airflow slider button on the bottom of the Vrizz 2 body. This slider has a double row of 4 holes and unlike the earlier Vrizz device; the airflow can be completely closed off.

While we’re focusing on the bottom of the Vrizz 2, the Type-C USB charging port, specified as 5V/1.2A is positioned on the outer edge (display side) to the airflow slider. The Vrizz 2 has an internal 1350mAh capacity high-density rechargeable battery and is charged using a Type-C charging cable.

Charging times are reasonably quick and will fully charge the Vrizz 2 in approximately 75 minutes with the added benefit of pass-thru allowing you to vape while it’s being charged.

The front of the Voopoo Vrizz 2 has a half height and full width display screen which is encased in a smoked black cover on the front edge of the Vrizz 2 which wraps around both sides of the body by about 15mm. Towards the bottom of the display screen is a small oval control button that when pressed illuminates the display and selects the 3 different preset power modes of ECO, NORM and TURBO. This is NOT a fire button as the Voopoo Vrizz 2 is draw activated only.

Above the display screen is a recessed sprung metal catch that can accept a lanyard but one isn’t included in the kit.

This large brightly colored display shows 3 different parameters; the top of the screen has dual 7-segment percentage figures of the remaining battery charge, the middle section shows atomizer with a dual colored icon and the bottom highlights the 3 different pre-set power modes.

The display illuminates when you draw on the mouthpiece and when the control button is pressed but unlike the earlier Vrizz device, the Vrizz 2 doesn’t display a vape time reading.

At the top of the Voopoo Vrizz 2 is the very deep 45mm pod recess where the Vrizz V2 pod is fitted. This opening is oval shaped so the pod can be fitted either way round. Within the pod recess are three gold plated spring loaded coil contact pins and two circular magnets that line up with the pod. There is also a circular auto draw sensor and an air intake channel.

This recess is very deep because of the huge size and capacity (15ml) of the Vrizz V2 pod. When it’s fitted, the magnets and physical size of the pod means it’s held very securely in place with no wobble at all. Because the Vrizz V2 pod is a bottom fill, it does have to be removed to fill with e-liquid.

On the back of the Voopoo Vrizz 2 body is a rectangular 20.5mm x 15.5mm cut-out in the casing that serves as an e-liquid viewing window when the pod is fitted.

Branding on the Vrizz 2 is limited to “VOOPOO” branded into the leather hide below the e-liquid viewing window, “VRIZZ 2” branded into the leather hide on the right hand side with “Made by Voopoo” and “VRIZZ” embossed into the leather with gold leaf on the left hand side.

The Vrizz 2 chip set ensures the 7 following safety features are maintained:

• Overtime protection (5 seconds)
• Low battery protection (3.2V)
• Short circuit protection (<0.3 ohms)

• Overcharge protection
• Output overcurrent protection
• Max power protection

There are a total of 8 different colors available in the Vrizz 2 range, these include:

Voopoo Vrizz V2 Pod

The new Vrizz V2 pod is an upgrade from the earlier Vrizz pod. It still has the same 15ml e-liquid capacity making it the largest pod capacity in the industry and specified as lasting 4 refills (60ml) before the flavor tailors off (80K puff count).

It now has the fill port positioned on the bottom of the pod but the integrated coil is something of a mystery as it’s specified as a dual mesh 0.4/0.7 ohm coil. It appears when the Vrizz 2 is set to NORM or TURBO mode both meshes work together but in ECO mode they alternate.

The 0.4/0.7 ohm V2 pod comes as part of the Vrizz 2 kit. A separate 0.4 ohm pod and 0.7 ohm pod both with single mesh are also available and sold separately. These new Vrizz V2 pods are NOT compatible with the earlier Vrizz device but the original Vrizz pods DO work in the Vrizz 2.

When first using your pod, make sure you remove the thin plastic film from the base and sides of the pod. The pod comes shipped with this protector so they can’t be accidentally fired before e-liquid has been added.

The Vrizz V2 pod is manufactured out of slightly tinted (smoked) lightweight PCTG material. This tint is fairly light so it’s quite easy to see your e-liquid level once it’s removed from the Vrizz 2 body. Its overall dimensions are slightly different from the original Vrizz pods, measuring 63.75mm tall by 42mm wide and 20.5mm deep and weighs is at 32.5 grams (approx. 45 grams when filled).

There is a slight 2mm lip around the top diameter of the Vrizz V2 pod which when fitted to the Vrizz 2 pod recess sits flush and level with the Vrizz 2 body.

Its mouthpiece is a duckbill shape with a 4mm central opening to cater for the MTL/RDL vape style.

When comparing the Vrizz pod against the new Vrizz V2 pod there are some visual differences. The coil housing appears slightly larger and there is the addition of a smaller diameter full height tube which acts as an air intake from the base of the pod. The base of the pods also have a different layout as shown above.

On the underside of the Vrizz V2 pod are two large gold plated circular coil contact plates with a smaller oval plate between the two. One side has a 4mm diameter air intake hole while the other side has the silicone rubber fill port stopper with the coil resistance branded into the rubber.

To gain access to the fill port, open the rubber flap from the direction of the arrow. A small fingernail recess is provided to aid removal. The other end of the silicone rubber flap will remain attached to the pod so it won’t get lost. This e-liquid fill port is a reasonable size measuring 4.5mm so is just big enough to accept short stubby e-liquid tip bottles.

Apart from “Voopoo” printed on one side of the pod and the CE marking on the other side, there are no other markings to say it’s a Vrizz V2 pod. Then again it’s pretty obvious as this won’t fit anything other than the Vrizz and Vrizz 2 devices.

Inserting the pod is straight-forward enough, simply place the pod to the Vrizz 2 body recessed pod opening and it will slide into the recess and be locked and held in place by the magnets. When the pod is inserted into the Vrizz 2 body, the display will initially illuminate and then extinguish.

Removing the pod is carried out by grasping the pod mouthpiece and pulling away from the Vrizz 2 body/battery. It’s a reasonably secure fit but because the pod sits quite low in the pod recess it can be a bit tricky to remove especially if your fingers or the mouthpiece are wet.

Alternatively you can grasp the very slight lip at the top of the pod and remove it this way.

Voopoo Vrizz 2 Functionality

In keeping with its intended design, the Voopoo Vrizz 2 has limited functionality, similar to the earlier Vrizz to mimic that of large disposable devices. It does have variable airflow control, 3 pre-set power modes selected by push button and a lovely bright clear colorful display.

It’s a draw activated device so doesn’t have a fire button nor and on/off switch. As like a disposable, to use the Vrizz 2 you just select your power mode, adjust the airflow and draw on the mouthpiece.

Display Screen

The Voopoo Vrizz 2 display breaks down into 3 parts; the top showing the remaining battery charge percentage status via a large dual 7-segment readout and the middle section highlights “Atomizer” with a blue or blue red icon which relates to the mode that’s selected. The bottom section shows the 3 pre-set power modes of ECO, NORM and TURBO with two arrows against the mode that’s selected.

We were unable to find out the visual indication on the display for the different levels of protection. What we have done is detail what the display indicates for the conditions we could check:

• Drawing on the pod: – Display illuminates
• Charging: – Display illuminates, 7-segment digits increment, lightning icon flashes
• Full charge: – 99% or when display blanks
• Low battery: – Display shows 0% and then changes from normal screen to “00”
• Pod inserted/removed: – Display illuminates briefly
• Overtime protection (5 seconds): – Display indicates “E3”

Preset Power Mode Adjustment

Selecting the 3 different preset modes of ECO, NORM and TURBO is carried out by pressing the control button. Each time the button is pressed the power mode that’s selected will be highlighted by an arrow either side of the colored box:

• ECO icon box = Green
• NORM icon box = Blue
• TURBO icon box = Red

The power range of the Voopoo Vrizz 2 is 12W – 30W. There is no information available stating what the wattage is for each of the modes. We can only surmise that ECO will be the minimum 12W, TURBO is the maximum 30W and NORM is between 18W – 22W.

Atomizer Icon

When ECO mode is selected a blue half oval icon illuminates to the left of the Atomizer wording. When NORM or TURBO are highlighted, a red half oval icon in addition to the blue icon illuminates to the right of the Atomizer wording.

Battery Status

The top part of the display indicates the remaining charge left in the battery. Two 7-segment numerical digits show the remaining percentage value.

When the battery approaches the low battery cut-off (3.2V), the battery percentage will have counted down to 0%. Shortly after this time the display will then switch from the main display to “00” and stop working. At this point you will have to place the Voopoo Vrizz 2 on charge.

Display Timeout

After you draw on the mouthpiece or press the control button, the display will remain illuminated for approximately 5 seconds and then extinguish.

Airflow

The adjustable airflow control slider on the bottom of the casing provides a MTL and RDL style draw. Moving the slider away from the USB port reduces the air intake for a tighter MTL draw. Closing the slider shuts the air intake off and prevents a draw. Opening the slider (towards the USB port) increases the air intake for a RDL draw.

This slider has a nice restrictive feel to it so won’t move on its own accord. You can position the lever anywhere between minimum and maximum to tweak your preferred vaping style.

Voopoo Vrizz 2 Performance

Vrizz V2 Pod Performance

A 0.4/0.7 ohm dual mesh bottom fill pod is supplied with the Voopoo Vrizz 2 kit. It does have an integrated coil so the coil is non-replaceable.

Voopoo state on their website this pod is good for 4 refills which equates to 60ml of e-liquid passed through the pod before it starts to deteriorate totaling up to 80K puffs. When the flavor tails off it’s time to change the pod.

As always, when filling the pod for the first time, do leave it to stand for 10-15 minutes before you use to allow the e-liquid to fully saturate the wicking material. I also bed a new pod in by setting the wattage to its lowest power (ECO mode) and vaping for a while to pull e-liquid through the coil before I experiment with different power modes.

True to form, the Vrizz V2 pod delivers on both flavor and dense vapor. Comparing the performance between the earlier Vrizz pod and this new Vrizz V2 pod I would say the V2 is a definite improvement. Flavor comes through crisp and strong with good vapor production.

All 3 power modes are very effective, ECO providing a slower less intense draw whereas NORM and then TURBO incrementally ups the power for a stronger draw.

Any Leaks?

Voopoo state that the extra layer of cotton around the coil helps prevent the pod from leaking.

Throughout my time using the Voopoo Vrizz V2 with the supplied 0.4/0.7 ohm pod there were no e-liquid leaks or seepage. The earlier Vrizz pod unfortunately did suffer slight leakage as the pod aged but so far the V2 is doing fine.

However, if you’re not using the device, or any other device for that matter, for a day or two and the pod is still connected to the device, e-liquid seepage will most likely occur. This is not a criticism of the Vrizz V2 pods in any way, it’s just my experience when using any pod mod.

Airflow

The airflow slider adjustment worked effortlessly and has a good resistive feel to the slider.

Restricting the airflow to just off the closed position produces a tight MTL draw but fully closing the airflow shuts off the airflow and doesn’t allow you to draw. Opening the airflow fully so the 4 rows of holes are showing provides a semi-restrictive DTL draw.

Auto Draw

Draw activation worked perfectly and always fired the Voopoo Vrizz 2. Irrespective of the position of the airflow, the draw was smooth and quiet. The occasionally gurgling we found on the earlier Vrizz pod is no longer present so the upgraded pod is working really well.

Vrizz 2 Battery Performance

The Voopoo Vrizz 2 is powered by a rechargeable 1350mAh capacity internal battery and takes approximately 75 minutes to fully charge via the on board Type-C USB port.

On average I was achieving over a day’s heavy(ish) vaping from the fully charged battery with the power mode set to ECO and NORM. Vaping in TURBO mode still gave a good day’s vaping so the increased capacity is a very welcomed addition.

Vaping times will vary depending on the resistance of the pod you’re using, the power mode you’re in and your vaping style i.e. duration and frequency of your draw.

The Voopoo Vrizz 2 indicates the status of the remaining battery charge on the 2 digit 7-segment display when you draw on the mouthpiece or press the control button. Full charge equals 99% and as the battery charge diminishes, the percentage value counts down from 99% to 0% and then switches to a single display of “00”. At this point you will no longer be able to vape and will have to charge the Vrizz 2.

We’ve covered the charging process and what to expect in How do I Charge the Voopoo Vrizz 2 section. Even though the Vrizz 2 charges in around 75 minutes, it does have pass-thru so you are able to vape while it’s being charged.

The intensity of the draw remained consistent throughout the discharge cycle of the battery. It doesn’t diminish as the battery drains and remained the same up to the point the battery cuts out.

How do I Fill the Vrizz V2 Pod?

As we’ve mentioned earlier in this review, the Vrizz V2 pod is a bottom fill so has to be removed from the Vrizz 2 pod recess in order to fill with e-liquid.

The fill port is located on the bottom of the Vrizz V2 pod casing and is concealed behind an orange silicone rubber flap that has the pod resistance branded into the rubber. A small arrow is indented on the rubber flap highlighting which end of the rubber stopper lifts away to gain access to the fill port. A fingernail slot is also present to aid removal.

Pull open the flap and insert your e-liquid bottle tip into the opening and fill the pod. Once filled, re-insert the silicon rubber flap making sure the fill port is securely re-seated and re-insert the Vrizz V2 pod into the pod recess. As you insert the pod, the display will briefly illuminate.

Quick Tip: If you are filling the pod for the first time, once filled, leave to stand for approx. 10-15 minutes before you start to vape. This will help saturate the wick fully in e-liquid and help prolong the life of the coil/pod. I would also bed the new pod in first by setting the power level to its lowest value (ECO) and take a few draws. Increase the wattage to the next pre-set level if you wish to increase the intensity of your draw.

When and How do I Change the Vrizz V2 Pod?

Because the included Vrizz V2 pod has a fixed non replaceable coil, when the coil starts to degrade i.e. loss of flavor and/or vapor, the pod will need to be discarded and a new pod fitted. Voopoo state these pods have a minimum lifespan of 4 refills (60ml) of e-liquid passing through them before it needs replacing.

Pull the pod away from the Voopoo Vrizz 2 battery/body. Unfortunately if you still have e-liquid in the pod, this will have to be discarded as well as it may have been tainted if the coil has burnt out or the wicking material has become clogged/dirty.

When fitting a new pod, follow the procedure for How do I Fill the Pod. As you insert the pod into the Voopoo Vrizz 2 body, the display will illuminate identifying the pod has made electrical contact with the Vrizz V2 pod.

How do I Charge the Voopoo Vrizz V2?

When the Voopoo Vrizz 2 display shows 0%, the battery will need to be charged and you’re no longer able to vape. Drawing on the pod in this state will illuminate the display showing 0% whereas pressing the button will only show “00”.

Because the Vrizz 2 has an internal battery, charging is carried out using a USB to Type-C charging cable (not supplied in the kit). Simply connect the cable into the Type-C port on the bottom of the Voopoo Vrizz 2 body and the other end into a suitable USB power source. The specified charging circuit of the Vrizz 2 is 5V/1.2A and will fully charge the Vrizz 2 in approximately 75 minutes.

As you plug the Type-C cable into the charging port, the Voopoo Vrizz 2 display illuminates, the battery percentage value will slowly start to increase and the lightning bolt icon will flash. The GREAT news is the display remains illuminated throughout the complete charging cycle.

Full charge is achieved when the battery percentage on the display indicates 99%. it will not read 100% as there are only 2 digits on the display. Leaving the charging cable plugged will extinguish the display screen after another minute.

The Voopoo Vrizz 2 has pass-through so you can vape while it’s being charged but bear in mind this will increase the overall charge time.

As with any vape device, I always advise to charge on a non-flammable surface and NEVER leave it unattended whilst charging and don’t charge overnight.

Voopoo Vrizz 2 Price

The Voopoo Vrizz 2 kit has only just been released so not widely available yet. A quick search showed it’s available between £10 and £15 but I recommend searching around for the best deal you can find.

Having owned and used the original Voopoo Vrizz over the last 10 months, the upgraded Vrizz 2 is definitely a step up. Increased power, bigger battery capacity with higher charging current, improved airflow control and a new dual mesh pod really do improve the overall performance.

The huge 15ml e-liquid capacity pod is a massive plus negating the need for constant re-filling. Flavor and vapor performance from the Vrizz V2 is impressive and the 3 power modes provide more than enough control.

I’m pleased to see the battery capacity has been increased to 1350mAh which does provide a good day’s vaping between charges. Pass-through charging is always a good plus so you’re never without a vape and a big plus for me is being able to see the status of the charge while it’s being charged.
